(More customer reviews)I remember the magic of the original Star Wars (I was 11 at the time), and I've been rather dismayed at the huge marketing campaign around the Phantom Menace. I picked up this book expecting it to be as trashy as a Taco Bell toy. Much to my surprise, it actually conveys significant insights into Queen Amidala/Padme which did not come out in the movie, nor in Terry Brooks' novelization. The author did a good job of imitating the style of a 14-year-old girl, but beneath the prosaic writing you feel that there's a real person, one whom you can admire and sympathize with. Only two complaints -- it's too short, and the pictures are too repetitive. Surely with more than two hours of film, they could have found a few different shots of Amidala/Padme.

Anakin Skywalker would pose as one there by scholarship. Ferus Olin (Anakin's rival) would pose as the son of someone important. The teens' mission had two parts. The first and most important part was to locate and rescue Gillam. The second part was to learn about a renegade squad of young mercenaries that used the school as a training ground.
***** Brava, Jude Watson! This, in my opinion, is the best of the J.Q. series thus far. Readers get to see another glimpse or two into Anakin's potential. The story is well written and the characters' traits are flawless! Highly recommended! *****

(More customer reviews)I really enjoyed the book one of the best! I love how Obi-Wan had to be the jedi "Master" though most of it.It showed that Qui-Gon is not perfect and that he needs Obi-Wan. The ending was sad. I don't think that Qui-Gon was so bad to Obi-Wan he did worry about his padawan. I think it would have be better for Qui to tell Obi about his feelings for tahl it would have helped obi understand why Qui was acting the way he did. I think its sweet that they both loved tahl(in different ways).I feel sorry for Bant How is she going to feel? She hardly knows the real Tahl.I really hoped that we could have seen Tahl on the cover so that we know what see looks like.

(More customer reviews)W-O-W!! This book rocks!! Jude...being Jude...has created yet another incredibly written story.
Two generations of master and apprentice struggle for one of the most evil creations in the galaxy.
(And seeing obi-wan dependent on a madman for help is something else)
I never put it down. (Wait...untrue.I put it down once, to chase my cat away from trouble) Reading was acompanied by shreiks of pleasure as a new angle revealed itself (I kidd you not).
The entire jedi apprentice series has a vast legion of followers, of all different ages. But we all share one common trait. WE LOVE THIS SERIES!!!
Jude has walked us through the trials of Obi-Wan's life with a skill most of us can only dream of.
We have watched him grow from an impatient boy ruled by his emotions,to a steady young master destined for a life of greatness.
We have watched his relationship with Qui-Gon transformed from something small and fragile,into something vast and unbreakable. Even death couldn't truely seperate that perfect pair.
But,eventually,everything must someday come to an end...to make room for another new begining.
The Followers is the final book in this great series.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
But all is not lost. Obviously to prevent mass riotts in the streets =) , another series is on its way. One that can rival and perhaps even surpass Jedi Apprentice. Jedi Quest.
And so, we bid a very fond farwell to our beloved series, and a warm welcome to its successor.
Jude, thank you. Thank you for the years of pleasure you have given us. And for the years yet to come.

(More customer reviews)I bought this book on Thursday, November 15, and finished it two days later because of how good it was!!! Jude Watson has outdone herself again!
Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, are still on New Apsolon and are mourning the death of fellow Jedi Knight, Tahl, whom Qui-Gon had pleged his life and his heart to. Manex, the brother of Roan -- the late ruler of New Apsolon -- has been very generous to the Jedi in their time of need. While Obi-Wan is trying to accept Tahl's death as a Jedi would, Qui-Gon is bent on revenge in the memory of his deceased beloved and has already sent two probe droids after Balog, Tahl's murderer. The Jedi contact the Temple and Tahl's Padawan, Bant, and Jedi Master, Mace Windu, come to New Apsolon to help Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. Bant is angry at Obi-Wan for not contacting the Temple sooner, and since Qui-Gon is not himself, Obi-Wan feels deserted. Meanwhile, the list of Absolute informers is still in the hands of Oleg. When Qui-Gon leaves Manex's home without telling anyone to find Oleg, so he can bring Balog to justice, Qui-Gon is attacked by probe droids and finds Oleg dead, without the list. Eritha, one of the late ruler's twin daughters, is now following her sister, Alani -- who is believed to be helping Balog -- so she can acquire information for Qui-Gon. Yanci, Irini, and Lenz are also trying to help Qui-Gon is his difficult task. Now a female Legislator, who is certain to have the list, is running for Supreme Governor, but she is killed too, also by probe droids. This is another dead end for Qui-Gon, but things are getting worse for Obi-Wan, especially when he, Mace, Bant discover that the probe droid that killed the Legislator was owned by Qui-Gon Jinn. Qui-Gon is now a wanted man, and Obi-Wan is worried for his safety. He is also beginning to question whom he should trust and is hoping that Qui-Gon does not surrender to the Dark Side of the Force. Did Qui-Gon really program the droid to kill the Legislator? Should Obi-Wan be trusting Manex, Eritha, Yanci, Lenz, and Irini? Will Qui-Gon be able to bring Balog to justice? Will Qui-Gon be ALIVE to bring Balog to justice? You will have to read "The Call to Vengeance" and see for yourself.

The Moment of Truth (Star Wars Jedi Quest #7) Review

(More customer reviews)This was an excellent book for those following the Obi/Anikan rift that just seems to deepen. to me the highlight of this book is when we get to see what happend to Obi-Wan when he fell into that nest of Gundarks that he refers to in Episode II.
The in this book was that Zan Arbor shows up, still up to her medicical misdeeds as she creats what is called "Zone of Self-Containment" in which Anakin finds himself trapped in.
I must admit this book is not as "clift hanging" as most of Jude Watsons books are...but it is very very enjoyable..and does build to the JQ #8
A definate "must" for lovers of "Jedi Quest"

(More customer reviews)While it is not as exciting as some of the past Jedi Apprentice books, this book is a nice addition to the series. A simple Jedi mission turns out to be more complicated than first expected. One can almost imagine Jude Watson giving the main characters a sort of break after their last run in with Xanatos.
This story is good for kids as provides strong messages about working together and thinking for one's own self. The only drawback is the lack of time Qui-gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi are together. This story does nothing to bring their relationship closer. However, there is an interisting hint into the future of the Jedi that ties this book into the Star Wars Universe. I would recommend that people read this if they want to stay in touch with the Jedi Apprentice Series.

The Threat Within (Star Wars: Jedi Apprentice, Book 18) Review

(More customer reviews)First of all, I really enjoyed this book. Sure, at times the writing style was a little bland and the supporting characters a bit formulaic, but for me, the amount of emotional development in the main characters of Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, and the quickly moving, descriptive plot completely made up for it. Many found this book in particular too reminiscent of earlier ones, particularly the whole Melida/Daan disaster. But I thought that having Obi-Wan reflect back on the horrors he saw there, and the huge rift between himself and Qui-Gon back then, made the similarities haunting rather than tedious, and added a heightened sense of drama to the overall story. It also showed how much Obi-Wan's matured over the past few years, in his willingness to never let anything like that happen again. Anyway, in this book Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are sent on a mission to Vorzyd 4, a planet on the edge of war with it's neighbor, Vorzyd 5, whom they are certain are the culprits of the resent terrorist attacks on their cities. As soon as they get there however, it's clear that everything is not as it seems... At the same time, Qui-Gon is beginning to become aware of the fact that Obi-Wan is growing up, and that the time they have left together is short, and this pains him terribly. Anyway, this is definitely a must for those of you who've been following the series. There is one more book after this, another split "special edition" adventure that features first Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon, and then later Obi-Wan and a young Anakin. Here's to that one being even better!

Secret Weapon (Star Wars: Last of the Jedi, Book 7) Review

(More customer reviews)In keeping with Watson's previous writing, Last of the Jedi #7 does an excellent job of moving the pace ahead and keeping suspense alive. The highlights of the overall plot included finding a new Jedi (familiar to readers of the Apprentice and Quest series), a return to Ferus' home planet, and the broadening of Ferus' latent Jedi abilities.
I was pleased to see a character list at the beginning of this book. Even if this were an adult series, the number of secondary and tertiary characters is becoming difficult to track.
Ferus' inability to discover Vader's true identity is maddening, but necessary... the question only remains of how this crisis will play out, with Ferus never knowing the secret or learning it but unable to pass it on (probably dying).
Again, as with the others of this and Watson's other series, it is age appropriate for grade schoolers and still fun for all SW fans to pick up yet a little more Expanded Universe knowledge.

Legacy Of The Jedi/Secrets Of The Jedi Bind-up (Star Wars) Review

(More customer reviews)The first story, Legacy of the Jedi was an awesome story. You started reading and hit the ground running. It gave great new insight into Dooku and the beginings of his fall. The second story, Secrets... was not as exciting, but still interesting. It shows Obi-Wan dealing with some of the same problems Anakin does. It also includes a short story by Watson that is about Obi-Wan set before the Last of the Jedi series and after Revenge of the Sith. Overall this book is awesome and you get two books for the price of one. Star Wars fans young and old will enjoy it. Even though the release date say May I found it a week ago at a book store. The cover is different also. The cover actually has Anakin in the forground with Yoda, Dooku, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan in the background.

(More customer reviews)Isn't it amazing how a so-called children's series has adults raving about it? I do feel sorry for those that pass over these Jedi Quest books because they feel they are for younger readers. Little do they know. The one relationship in the whole Star Wars univers that has fascinated me the most is the one between Obi-Wan and Anakin. We all know what it's destined for and that makes it a very heartbreaking journey to go through with them. But these books make you almost wish that there's some magical way that Obi-Wan and Anakin will work through their feelings. Shadow Trap shows us Anakin and Obi-Wan at one of those moments in their realationship where they're feeling apart. Well, Anakin is anyways. The great thing about this book is that we see it from both of their sides, we see inside both of their minds, their feelings on the matter. If Anakin could only see that while his Master may be disappointed in an act that he commited previously, he's not cast him off to the wayside, he is simply giving him time to try to deal with it. But of course, they are thrust into a mission with this tension between them and must try to find a way to deal with it and succsesfully complete their task.
This great little story is full of suprises and I think to say too much about it would give too much away. Suffice it to say that both Masters Yaddle and Yoda play a big part in it all. But the big question is, will the end of the story lead to Anakin and Obi-Wan closing that rift between them, or will the circumstances cause that rift to widen?

(More customer reviews)She's done it again! This book was great. Jude has caught me on the edge of my seat several times before, but this one put me there quicker than I can remember. When I recieved the book, I found myself jumping ecstaticly up and down, which is not particularly normal for me. That's what these books can do to you!
The book is about Obi-Wan Kenobi and his master, Qui-Gon Jinn, but there are a few sinister faces poking around. Who? A skilled bounty hunter and an evil(and extremely crazy)scientist who has captured Qui-Gon and is holding him hostage in a tank(full of some kind of gas). His blood is extracted daily, and he must use the force to make the scientist happy and get an hour of freedom each day. As he gets weaker, Obi-Wan hopes that Qui-Gon's friend, Didi, will live. Didi has been shot by a blaster that carried an infection of some sort. The healers at the Jedi Temple at first can not identify the infection, but then realize that the only antidote is carried by only one supplier-the scientist who invented the antidite. That scientist's lab has mysteriously closed down. No one knows the scientist's whereabouts at this point.
It is up to Obi-Wan and Didi's daughter Astri to evade the bounty hunter and find the scientist's secret lab(with some help from a couple of strange creatures)before it's too late for Didi and Qui-Gon. But if he should meet with the bounty hunter, will Obi-Wan be able to win the battle without Qui-Gon at his side? The bounty hunter is not about to forgive Obi-Wan about the injuries from their last meeting...

The Uncertain Path (Star Wars: Jedi Apprentice, Book 6) Review

(More customer reviews)Do you know that feeling where your heart is pounding, you pulse is racing, your stomach twisting in knots, and your adrenaline pumping? All of the six jedi apprentice books have done that to me, and this one is no exception. As an eighteen year old college student, I am well out of the age range, but I not only love these books, I have also gotten my twenty year old roomate hooked on them. My one major problem is the relationship between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan forgave Guerra for betraying him on Bandomeer and almost getting him killed. He also forgave Jono and Nield. I think its time for Qui-Gon to learn another lesson from his padawan, especially since its partly his fault Obi-Wan left. This book adds a depth to both characters that didnt really exist before. Obi-Wan realizes that he is not complete without Qui-Gon, and Qui-Gon begins to realize how much Obi-Wan means to him. They are meant for each other, but they make it so hard for themselves. It also allows us a deeper look into the temple, and the problems there. Its a wonderful book, with great characters who grab your heart and wont let go.

The Changing of the Guard (Star Wars Jedi Quest #8) Review

(More customer reviews)This is one of my all time favorite books. I've read almost all of the star wars books, but this is the best one yet! Obi-Wan and Siri are friends, who just happen to be Jedi knights, but it dosen't stop them from acting human! This is a funny book, because Siri, who isn't a girly girl is forced to wear a dress, and Obi-Wan is supposed to be a theif! And Obi-Wan let Siri chose his wardrobe, (which turns out to be a BIG mistake!) and Anakain and Ferus somewhat get along! It's a book filled with twists and turns!

The False Peace (Star Wars Jedi Quest #9) Review

(More customer reviews)Basically, it starts on the planet of Falleen which is a peaceful planet that has lots of factories in an area called the Yellow District because it is covered in a yellow haze. The Jedi discover a factory called Blackwater Systems which was the most recently built in the area, it was built quickly and bribed some of Falleen's people to ignore anything that was out of code. There were also 4 deaths that occured and each time the people of Falleen it was the victims fault. The Jedi (Siri Tachi, Ferus Olin, Obi Wan, and Anakin)expect Granta Omega and Jenna Zan Arbor to be behind the incident. Obi Wan and Anakin become workers in the factory for a day and discover much about it that night. Mace Windu eventually calls them back to Coruscant for another mission, which turns out that part of the Senate have lost faith in the Jedi and claim that instead they are destroying worlds. The leader of this oppostion is Bog Divian (Astri Oddo's husband) the worlds Bog talks about the destruction of are of course the planets Obi Wan and Siri have found Omega on recently. After facing part of the Senate to tell them what happened on those planets Obi Wan must find a way to resolve this issue and find Omega at the same time. Will the solution be as tough as it appears or tougher?

Deceptions (Star Wars: Jedi Apprentice, Special Edition #1) Review

(More customer reviews)I thought this book was wonderful. I loved the detail on the surroundings and the characters. I thought some of the parts of the book were a bit sad. You actually felt for the characters like they were your long time friends. That signifies a good book when you feel that way. When Obi-Wan felt very bad about the death of Bruck Chun he did not want to meet with Bruck's father, Vox Chun.(If you have not read at least the first 10 books in the Jedi Apprentice series, this book will make no sense to you). I only wished this book was alot longer. The book would zoom ahead 12 years when Obi-Wan has Anikan as a Padawan. I loved how it got into the feelings of Anikan. You could almost sense his knowledge of misunderstanding, and his path to the Dark Side. Thal was also in this a little too, and that was an influense on the beginning characters as well. I hope they have a Special Edition #2. The cover on this book is holographic too! Jude Watson has again put out an amazing book that will bring Star Wars fans and readers to understand the characters of Episode I and II a little better. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan----Obi-Wan and Anikan. Master of Deception (Star Wars: Last of the Jedi, Book 9) Review

(More customer reviews)This series has been a joy from the start. Watson is one of if not the most prolific Star Wars authors today. Even though this book is written for younger readers it is engaging for adults also. Master of Deception is no exception. M.O.D. continues the action packed and wonderfully developed story of Ferus Olin and his attempts to save the surviving members of the Jedi Order. You get a nice look into the Organa family as well as a young Leia. I'm only sorry that there is only one more book in the series.
