Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace: Anakin to the Rescue (Step into Reading, Step 2) Review

Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace: Anakin to the Rescue (Step into Reading, Step 2)
Average Reviews:

I am a teacher. I work with children who have learning disabilities. Most of the children I work with have, what the public would call, dystexia. It is very hard to find books with large print that reflect the age group I work with. Fourth and Fifth graders don't like reading books about children much younger than themselves. Most of the books with large pint have stories about seven year old children, or even younger, this discourages and bores the older child. Today, one of my nine year boys read this book with very lettle help, but most important he really liked it and laughed in all the right places. If you have a child who hates to read,( many times this can point out some sort of problem,) try them on an age appropriate large print book. This set is published by Random House and is a great place to start.

It talks about the fate of Anakin Skywalker. I thought it was a good and detailed book. It gets right to the point.

A wonderful original adventure, showing Anakin's daily life on Anakin Skywalker believes that one day he will be more than just a slave. He has dreams. Maybe someday he will leave Tatooine and become a space pilot, or even a Jedi Knight! But how can he become a pilot when he can't win-or even finish-a Podrace? Adventures In Hyperspace #1: Fire Ring Race (Star Wars) Review

Adventures In Hyperspace #1: Fire Ring Race (Star Wars)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's hard to find early chapter books for young boys - there are a few series, offered by Scholastic, but not many. My sons are crazy into Star Wars, and had progressed beyond the DK Reader series (by the way, not a big difference between Level 3 and 4 in the DK Readers). We were looking into chapter books, and many of the classics (like Boxcar Children) were too long and too hard. The Magic Treehouse books would be a similar level but we'd read them all a few years ago so he had no desire to re-read them.
The day I bought him the Adventures in Hyperspace book, his first grade teacher sent home a note that he was entirely absorbed in reading the book and she was thrilled (as were we!). He loves the book. I hope that publishers continue to think of the younger kids as they write new Star Wars books.

A New Hope: The Life of Luke Skywalker Review

A New Hope: The Life of Luke Skywalker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really enjoyed this book. I have followed all of the Star Wars series books from Scholastic (Jedi Apprentice, Jedi Quest, Last of the Jedi, and Rebel Force)and I believe this book links into those stories as well as what happened before, and after the movies. For those who haven't read the Star Wars comics, Have you ever wondered what Luke was doing prior to the events in Star Wars: A New Hope? Have you ever wondered about his relationship with Owen Lars? Do you want to know how the rebels found Hoth? Do you want to see Luke uncover information about Anakin Skywalker? All of these events are depicted in this book. The only negative thing about this book is that the events prior to The Empire Strikes Back are briefly cover. I would have liked to have had this area explored in more depth. Other than that I really enjoyed this book. A New Hope: The Life of Luke Skywalker

Empire Strikes Back, The (Star Wars (Econo-Clad Hardcover)) Review

Empire Strikes Back, The (Star Wars (Econo-Clad Hardcover))
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well, I'm just writing here because nobody else seems to have come here. Mainly because everybody that's read any Star Wars books at all has seen the original trilogy on video, so why bother with reading the story? Well, the books are always so much better than movies because you can tell what people are thinking without those echo-sounding voices or a narrator. I think this is, of course, a VERY good book. I love the way Han and Leia fall in love. That part where Han gets frozen in carbonite will have sort of sensitive people balling. See, even before the Star Wars fad, the movies were popular in our home. So, I am not a new Star Wars fan. (In other words, I like SW, and I know what I'm talking about.) Very good book.

A Queen's Diary (DK READERS) Review

A Queen's Diary (DK READERS)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The release of Star Wars books for young people has always been related to a theatrical promotion. In a world that has a seen all six films, a new wave of DK Readers is much appreciated. It gives us comfort that even though the movies are finished, the Star Wars experience isn't completely 'done.' As the title suggests, "A Queen's Diary" looks into the life of Queen Amidala of the Naboo. In the beginning of her diary, Amidala discusses what it's like to be queen. We get to find out who she is as a person as she describes how she feels about her position. Eventually, the book discusses the time when the Trade Federation invaded her planet. Queen Amidala met some Jedi and a boy named Anakin Skywalker. Eventually, she and her people are victorious. The diary ends by the Queen wondering if she'll ever see that Anakin boy again. As with many of these books, Padmé Amidala is the token Star Wars character for girls. As in "Queen in Disguise," she is a humble heroine. Despite depicting a great role model for girls, this title is not 'girly.' The feminine dynamics simply add some balance to the usual testosterone that should make this appeal to both the guys and gals. "A Queen's Diary" offers some redundancy in the Star Wars pantheon. It is remarkably similar to 2000's "I Am a Queen." It also has overlap with Queen Amidala's "Episode I: Journal." Despite such overlapping, it is forgivable when considering that the other books mentioned are all out-of-print. This book keeps the Queen's story alive for a younger generation of readers. In terms of the illustrations, the vast majority were lifted from "the Phantom Menace." While the pictures are high quality, the writing is also good. This new series has books for most levels of elementary readers. Given the length and vocabulary, this title is best suited to readers on a third grade level. "A Queen's Diary" offers a personal look at Padmé Amidala during Episode I.

The Lost City of the Jedi (Star Wars) Review

The Lost City of the Jedi (Star Wars)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Out of all the books in this not very good series, this was probably one of the worst. Right behind Zorba the Hutt's Revenge and Queen of the Empire of course. As much as I enjoy it when the characters wander around jungle planets,(my favorite) this book had an unbelievable plot, weak diologue, and an extremely childish writing style. And that Ken is a nice boy and all, but a complete geek. An attempt to relate to the "normal kid" who would be reading this book. Also the characters from the movies are either grossly exagerated, or practicly nonexistant. All of them are warped and and barely recognizabal as Star Wars characters, most of all Luke. Kids twelve and under, for whom this book is intended for, probably won't mind any of that, though, adult and teenage Star Wars fans, such as myself will probably find them boring and silly.

Star Wars Clone Wars: The Shipyards of Doom (Star Wars: the Clone Wars) Review

Star Wars Clone Wars: The Shipyards of Doom (Star Wars: the Clone Wars)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Shipyards of Doom is the first volume in a quarterly, graphic-novella series by Dark Horse and is based on The Clone Wars as presented in last year's film and the current TV series. If you are reading this review, I assume you are OK with the graphic novel format that seems to be rapidly increasing in popularity. We have come a long ways from the old comic books. Now the books are printed on heavy stock as trade paperbacks, and the graphics are uniformly excellent.
The story in this book deals with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano (Anakin's Padawan) and their mission to infiltrate the Banking Clan Shipyards and destroy Separatist warships under construction. Without a successful conclusion to the mission, the Separatist forces may begin to overwhelm the Republic armies.
The story is a good one, the characters are presented well, and the graphics are great fun to look at. Give Shipyards of Doom a try.

The Freedon Nadd Uprising (Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi) Review

The Freedon Nadd Uprising (Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was a great beginning to the TALES OF THE JEDI saga. It properly followed the story outline provided by Tom Veitch in the end text of DARK EMPIRE number 5 (It's too bad that the future stories strayed from that superb plotline). Some of my favorite scenes involved Satal Keto and Aleema discovering the ancient Sith medallion and unknowingly succombing to the dark side of the force. This was a great set-up to a story that would later be ruined by Kevin J. Anderson's interference. The only reason that I did not give this a five star rating was because a certain character gets his arm sliced off and then hooks a fully functioning droid arm on as an instant on the spot replacement! UGHH! Other than that, you have a really cool story.

Star Wars Tales, Vol. 3 Review

Star Wars Tales, Vol. 3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the best of the three Star Wars Tales TPB comics complied so far. I am reviewing Star Wars tales volume 3, simply called Star Wars Tales by Amazon. This is ISBN 1569718369 and collects issues 9 through 12 of the Dark horse quarterly comic-book anthology STAR WARS TALES.
This is my favorite of the 3 SWT volumes. It is 20 stories that I can read to my son (who has a short attention span and ADHD) and enjoy them together. The art work quality varies, as each story has different production staff working on them, but generally the art is from a 3 to a 4.5. The Stories are very uneven, but out of 20, if you found 5 that you could re-read with your kids, won't you call the book a winner? It is. That is why I assign it 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.
At 224 pages, watch for poor binding. Many of the larger TPB comics I have purchased since manufacture was moved from Canada to china have bindings where the comic just falls apart in your hands. The one I have is OK, but I want to be aware of the problem.
The cover art is by Tsuneo Sanda, and is an awesome picture of Han Solo standing with a hugh fire blazing in the background.

Star Wars, Book One: The Glove of Darth Vader; The Lost City of the Jedi; Zorba the Hutt's Revenge Review

Star Wars, Book One: The Glove of Darth Vader; The Lost City of the Jedi; Zorba the Hutt's Revenge
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Written by Paul Davids and Hollace Davids, Star Wars: Book One proves to be an exciting collection of three short stories beginning with The Glove Of Darth Vader, followed by The Lost City Of The Jedi and concluding with Zorba The Hutt's Revenge. With cover art wonderfully created by Drew Struzan and published by Barnes and Nobles this hardcover book with built in dust cover will bring enjoyment to all Star Wars fans. Given the book is written in three parts I will continue my review in the same way.
The Glove Of Darth Vader: Set 5ABY within the New Republic Era the Glove of Vader introduces a handful of exciting new characters that literally grab the reader by the throat and don't let go. Set against the long forgotten last creation of Emperor Palpatine, Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker must find a way to combat the new galactic enemy before he can become an even more powerful foe. Aided by our beloved C3PO and R2D2 and joined by Admiral Ackbar himself the group plunges to the deepest parts of Calamari in order to save a defenseless species from extinction. Along the way the agents of good will fight the evil forces leaving the reader to wonder if they will succeed in time.
Continuing where The Glove of Darth Vader leaves off The Lost City of the Jedi tells the tale of how the power hungry appointed leader, Trioculus must seek approval from the dark powers that be. Gaining the knowledge of his future as a leader Trioculus also learns that his fate does not lie with his own evil prowess but that of a twelve year old boy raised in the Lost City of the Jedi. Faced with his demise and failing health the evil Lord pursues those who could destroy him. During a key battle Trioculus discovers a rebel alliance member he plans to share leadership of the galactic empire with. An action packed story that tells the time old tale of good Vs. evil and the morality of man.
Concluding the series in spectacular form Paul and Hollace Davids bring back old story threads from episode 4-6 and intertwine them with new characters. After freeing himself from his Jedi created city young Ken sets out to explore the galaxy and with help from his new mentor he becomes one with his inner strength. Meanwhile, the evil Lord Trioculus continues his evil conquest and pursues his lustful thirst for his future queen. After a series of separate character threads the authors bring all characters together at the end and give the reader an action packed conclusion that will leave them wanting more.
This book is written for the younger Star Wars audience and lacks filler(internal character thoughts, conflicts and deductive reasoning skills) found in most full length novels. The story is a fun romp through the galaxy and exposes us to new characters along with a refreshing view of those we have known from a long time ago. A very good book that Star Wars fans will love if cantor is set aside.
ALL FEEDBACK IS APPRECIATED. THANKS AND GOOD READING.

The Glove of Darth Vader (Star Wars , Vol 1) Review

The Glove of Darth Vader (Star Wars , Vol 1)
Average Reviews:

These books were meant for children NOT ADULTS! Therefore they need not be constant with the other books that were made for big boys and girls! I really don't think a child will care weather or not Luke flies a Y-wing or X-wing or if it doesn't correspond with the Thrawn trilogy! Children most likely wouldn't be found reading a novel like Heir to the Empire anyway! I bought this book for my friend's younger brother and I skimmed through it. No, TARKIN WAS NOT THE ONLY GRAND MOFF! IN THE MOVIES YES, BUT IN THE GALAXY, NO! DARTH VADER WAS THE ONLY DARK LORD OF THE SITH IN THE MOVIES BUT THERE WERE OBVIOUSLY MORE OF THEM BEFORE HIM! If you're mad at this author for it then also be mad at Zhan because in the Hand of Thrawn saga one of his bad guys is (suprise suprise) a Grand Moff! These stories entertained my friend's little brother greatly. He felt like he was like his big brother and me who were always talking about all the Star Wars novels. These are excellent books for the younger generation that they were meant for. Face it. Star Wars isn't just for the 20+ year old age group it once was. The Special Edition changed that, therefor it was a success.

Adventures In Hyperspace #2: Shinbone Showdown (Star Wars)
Average Reviews:

If you have young kids who love Star Wars these are great little books. My daughter is 6, maybe just under the age where she could read these easily on her own, but as a "chapter a night" bedtime book it's perfect. I would guess an 8-year-old could probably read these alone without any trouble. It's sweet and humorous without being corny, and a welcome return to the familiar Original Trilogy universe in this Clone Wars era.
These aren't "picture books", but most pages have one color illustrations to accompany the text. Paper quality is pretty low, these are cheap mass market paperbacks, but it gets the job done.

Before Luke met Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine, the closest thing Han Solo and Chewbacca came to galactic politics was a few choice maneuvers around imperial blockades. Instead their lives were spent rambling through the Outer Rim, flying fast, and taking quick jobs to get from place to place--with a few close calls along the way. This new series follows Han and Chewie thoughout time in fully illustrated, easy-to-read, lighthearted adventures, created especially with young readers in mind.
