A New Hope: The Life of Luke Skywalker Review

A New Hope: The Life of Luke Skywalker

I really enjoyed this book. I have followed all of the Star Wars series books from Scholastic (Jedi Apprentice, Jedi Quest, Last of the Jedi, and Rebel Force)and I believe this book links into those stories as well as what happened before, and after the movies. For those who haven't read the Star Wars comics, Have you ever wondered what Luke was doing prior to the events in Star Wars: A New Hope? Have you ever wondered about his relationship with Owen Lars? Do you want to know how the rebels found Hoth? Do you want to see Luke uncover information about Anakin Skywalker? All of these events are depicted in this book. The only negative thing about this book is that the events prior to The Empire Strikes Back are briefly cover. I would have liked to have had this area explored in more depth. Other than that I really enjoyed this book. A New Hope: The Life of Luke Skywalker

Rebel Force #5: Trapped (Star Wars) Review

Rebel Force #5: Trapped (Star Wars)

Continuing the development of Luke Skywalker and his jedi skills and the reemergence of characters from previous young adult Star Wars series. You want to look up the list of Star Wars books on wikipedia and read the Jude Watson novels starting with the Jedi Apprentice series. Highly recommend reading them first, as you will enjoy this book a lot more. Luke was just one of several major characters in this book, you'll want to know who the other folks are... I gave this an average review, as the book did not stand out - was interesting to see planet Bellasan and the earlier characters. The particular mission in this book did not seem worth the risks and looked under-resourced, enjoyed the non-mission related interactions.

Target (Star Wars Rebel Force #1) Review

Target (Star Wars Rebel Force #1)

After years of depressing EU novels, this is a refreshing breathe of fresh air. Rebel Force: Target by Alex Wheeler is a book I am so happy to have given a shot. This series takes place shortly after A New Hope and stars our heroes Han, Luke, and Leia, along with other favorites. The series is a glimpse of what happened to get the group to get them from A New Hope to The Empire Strikes Back.
In Target, Han, Leia, Luke, and the droids are sent to Muunilinst to gather secret funds that Alderaan housed there. With Alderaan destroyed, they need them and need them soon if they are to deal with the Empire, which is on there tail. But there is an unsuspecting traitor in our heroes mist who only wants to please the Empire.
Target has what you've come to expect from Star Wars EU with out the depressing story lines and character deaths. I suggest that if you are a fan of star wars, young and old, you pick this up. Perfect for the age group it was written for (8 to 12), but also perfect for those adult EU fans who don't want to continue past NJO or LotF and only want to feel the sense of escapism they found originally in the SW universe.

It is a critical moment in the struggle between the Rebels and the Empire: the Force itself hangs in the balance, and all the hopes of the galaxy depend on the adventures of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and a host of other heroes. . . .

Uprising (Star Wars Rebel Force) Review

Uprising (Star Wars Rebel Force)

When this Star Wars Series, basically intended for younger readers, first came out I had no idea how long the Series would last. I did know that the time of the series is set right after Star Wars Ep IV A New Hope. The six-book series was well crafted and set easy to read for the younger readers. It also appeals to the serious Star Wars fan, as the story Still entertains, and older fans won't feel the books are beneath them. This is apparently the end of this series and it is a very quick but enjoyable series. Fans of all ages can enjoy it at a great low price. I definitely recommend these books.

Rebel Force #3: Renegade (Star Wars) Review

Another great installment of Rebel Force. An attempt on Luke's life leads him and Leia to leave Yavin Four to keep him safe when it comes clear someone among the Rebels is the one who tried to kill him. They travel to Tatooine where Luke meets up with old friends, visits old homes and finds a little trouble. It was an awsome book except Han is immediately suspected of trying to kill Luke. That's right Han. Even though the ending is really good I still don't understand how anyone would think Han would try to kill Luke.

Rebel Force: Firefight (Star Wars) Review

Rebel Force: Firefight (Star Wars)

Picked this up this past weekend. I've kind of been hanging on to this last young adult Star Wars series hoping that it pulls some of the plot strings together from Jedi Apprentice, Jedi Quest, Last of the Jedi, etc. Although it is an entertaining read, I feel it pulls a little too much from the Prequels. As much as it is practically a standard nowadays in Star Wars literature to include canon from the new movies which have shed a great deal of light on history in that galaxy far far away, some of these stories seem to force it. It almost seems formulaic that each of these novels will visit a planet or major plot point from episodes I-III. While results are often interesting, the intention is clear: Tying Original Trilogy characters with their Prequel Counterparts. Heck: SPOILER: Practically this entire novel takes place on Kamino. And while this could push the story in an intriguing and new direction pertaining to clones, it decides to give us a story more on par with a modern day monster movie. There is the inlclusion of a character from past series that makes the read rewarding, but the plot has less to do with his past than it does with in your face thrills and chills. If you've read the series up to this point, don't give up, but don't expect any huge new developments.

Hostage (Star Wars Rebel Force No. 2) Review

Hostage (Star Wars Rebel Force No. 2)

Another excellent installment of Rebel Force. This one follow's Leia through her toughest challenge yet. She's going home. The sister planet Delaya where many of the Alderaan survivors have been taken in by the planet. Its amazing the stark differences between the two planets. Once again the charactorations are amazing. From Han sort of bonding with a Alderaan survivor to Luke's accidential kidnapping and the discover of exactly how well the survivors have been taken care off. I also enjoyed Fess who's idenity will probably be easy to figure out. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.
