Star Wars: Epic Battles (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition) (DK Readers: Level 4 (Prebound)) Review

As the title suggests, "Epic Battles" is a look at combat in the Star Wars universe. It's a terrific premise for a book since young viewers have often found the fight scenes to be one of the most compelling dynamics of the story. The book takes a thematic approach and looks at land and space battles. The major conflicts are well covered including the campaigns that happened on Naboo, Geonosis, Kashyyyk, Hoth and Endor. In addition to the major space skirmishes, time is spent on the more exciting dogfights like Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter vs. Jango Fett's Slave I. In addition, Author Simon Beecroft discusses the saga's most interesting lightsaber duels. The book does in excellent job of showing how the Sith are behind much of the galaxy's discord. A strength of the title is that is pulls the entire saga (all six films) together. A glossary is included. In terms of the illustrations, the vast majority were lifted from the films. While the pictures are high quality, the writing is also good. Given the 48 page length and vocabulary level, this title is best suited to readers on a fourth or fifth grade level. "Epic Battles" offers an exciting look at the great conflicts of the Star Wars saga.

I'm not 8 years old, but my son tells me this is a great book for Star Wars fans. I love him reading about heroic action. This book's reading level is pretty easy -- first graders and up can manaage it. My son assures me that "even big kids don't get bored with this book."
There you have it.

Star Wars: Ultimate Duels (DK READERS) Review

Star Wars: Ultimate Duels (DK READERS)

Ultimate Duels, by Lindsay Kent, is a virtual compendenum of cacophonous clashing of sabres...Yep, that is a mouthful, but the book is truly a great source of "Top ___battles in the Star Wars Universe".
Lindsay presents Weapons, Jedi Training, Sith Methods, Forgotten Menace, Duels on Naboo, Conflict on Kamino, Battle of Geonosis, Rescuing Palpatine, Battle of Utapau,Sith Lord, Great Contest, and the Death Star Duel (among others). In level appropriate language for young readers, this primer gives an overview of said battles.
For star Wars fans of all ages, this is a good product to keep readers interested and motivated. Good photographs and illustrations accompany the descriptions (as usual).
A good value for $3.99

Dr Seuss would be proud.
"Don't Wake the Zillo Beast" introduces the Star Wars Universe to young readers, and most particularly, beasts and dangerous animals. Clear pronunciation guides, and large kid friendly images make this a good book for kindergarten to grade one or two.
See the Zillo Beast eat the grass. Num..numm...
The Clone Wars are sure to continue for a LOOOONNNNNG time with books like this.

Star Wars: Clone Troopers in Action (DK Readers, Level 2: Beginning to Read Alone) Review

Star Wars: Clone Troopers in Action (DK Readers, Level 2: Beginning to Read Alone)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Clone Troopers in Action" is a primary look at the clones. Naturally this story begins on Kamino with Jango Fett. After explaining the development of the Grand Army of the Republic, the book moves into the various theaters of combat and explores how the soldiers specialize to work in different environments. In the war named after them, the clones sometimes drive speeder bikes and even starfighters. Because the Chancellor issues Order 66, the clone army terminates most of the Jedi. Afterwards, the clone troopers are called storm troopers and then work for the Emperor to end the Galactic Civil War. They sometimes take the form of snowtroopers or scout troopers that use AT-ATs. After following an objective overview of the topic, the book takes a curious turn as it finishes with a retelling of how Luke, Leia and friends destroy the first Death Star. The story ends on a dark note as it asks, 'Will they rise again to fight the valiant rebels?' Each page contains one to four sentences of text, good for most second or third grade readers. The illustrations are mostly drawn from the films, covering the entire saga. The thirty-two page book includes a table of contents, a quiz and an index. This read is perfect for any young Star Wars fan who always wanted the full story on the clones.

DK Readers Pre-Level 1: Star Wars: Blast Off Review

DK Readers Pre-Level 1: Star Wars: Blast Off
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"Blast Off!" is a youngling's encyclopedia of Star Wars characters. Each spread introduces a character with one to three descriptive sentences. The beautiful illustrations are typically a blend of studio stills and scenes from the films. The movie shots are drawn from the entire saga, sometimes combining original trilogy and prequel imagery. Most of the characters are the good guys including Han Solo, Princess Leia, Yoda, Padmé Amidala and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Curiously, Anakin is introduced as a separate character from the one included villain, Darth Vader. The final page features a composite of all characters and an invitation for the reader to select a favorite. The self-described level one book actually includes a table of contents and a glossary. Almost as good as a ride on the Millennium Falcon, this thirty-two page book is a fun way for young readers to "Blast Off!" into the Star Wars universe.
