Star Wars: Ultimate Duels (DK READERS) Review

Star Wars: Ultimate Duels (DK READERS)

Ultimate Duels, by Lindsay Kent, is a virtual compendenum of cacophonous clashing of sabres...Yep, that is a mouthful, but the book is truly a great source of "Top ___battles in the Star Wars Universe".
Lindsay presents Weapons, Jedi Training, Sith Methods, Forgotten Menace, Duels on Naboo, Conflict on Kamino, Battle of Geonosis, Rescuing Palpatine, Battle of Utapau,Sith Lord, Great Contest, and the Death Star Duel (among others). In level appropriate language for young readers, this primer gives an overview of said battles.
For star Wars fans of all ages, this is a good product to keep readers interested and motivated. Good photographs and illustrations accompany the descriptions (as usual).
A good value for $3.99

Tales from Jabba's Palace (Star Wars) (Book 2) Review

Tales from Jabba's Palace (Star Wars) (Book 2)
Average Reviews:

I've read this book a few times now. It is essentially a collection of stories coming from the various residents of Jabba's palace. I would not recommend this to everyone, but instead those of you who want to explore every detail, in which case you are probably a big fan (such as myself) and don't want to miss out on anything.
Stories come from Oola the Dancer, Gartogg the Gamorrean Guard, Bib Fortuna, Salacious Crumb, Mara Jade and Boba Fett amongst many others (19 in total). It may be surprising to some that there is no tale from Jabba himself.
A lot of the stories detail many of the same events, such as Oola being fed to the rancor and Jabba being strangled by Princess Leia. A murder mystery (which Gartogg sets out to solve) also surfaces in a few tales. While it is interesting to see these events from other characters' point of views, it does make the book repetitive at times, as you feel like you're reading the same events happen all over again. This, for me, is about the only flaw with this book (and it probably is to be expected given that this is an anthology of tales from characters who were at the same place at the same time).
Other than that, there is some really good stuff here. The tale of Malakili the rancor keeper is one of the highlights. You also learn of how Boba Fett escapes the Sarlacc and, less importantly in the grand scheme of things, how the B'omarr monks overtake Jabba's palace (well it did belong to them originally). A few stories end with someone's brain being put into a jar...
If you're interested in learning more about the residents of Jabba's palace then I'd definitely recommend this. Even if you're not all that keen, you'll probably still find enjoyment in this. Learning about Boba Fett's escape may be worth the price tag alone for some people.
Hope you find this useful ... 4/5

Dr Seuss would be proud.
"Don't Wake the Zillo Beast" introduces the Star Wars Universe to young readers, and most particularly, beasts and dangerous animals. Clear pronunciation guides, and large kid friendly images make this a good book for kindergarten to grade one or two.
See the Zillo Beast eat the grass. Num..numm...
The Clone Wars are sure to continue for a LOOOONNNNNG time with books like this.

Exactly what is the force? How does it work? What can it do?
Benjamin Harper answers all those questions in "Feel The Force". This book explores the battle between the dark side, and the light side. Why is Darth Vader so dangerous, and why does he turn his back on the dark side? Learn how Yoda can jump amazing distances for someone so short.
Awesome imagery in this book.

Star Wars: Clone Troopers in Action (DK Readers, Level 2: Beginning to Read Alone) Review

Star Wars: Clone Troopers in Action (DK Readers, Level 2: Beginning to Read Alone)
Average Reviews:

"Clone Troopers in Action" is a primary look at the clones. Naturally this story begins on Kamino with Jango Fett. After explaining the development of the Grand Army of the Republic, the book moves into the various theaters of combat and explores how the soldiers specialize to work in different environments. In the war named after them, the clones sometimes drive speeder bikes and even starfighters. Because the Chancellor issues Order 66, the clone army terminates most of the Jedi. Afterwards, the clone troopers are called storm troopers and then work for the Emperor to end the Galactic Civil War. They sometimes take the form of snowtroopers or scout troopers that use AT-ATs. After following an objective overview of the topic, the book takes a curious turn as it finishes with a retelling of how Luke, Leia and friends destroy the first Death Star. The story ends on a dark note as it asks, 'Will they rise again to fight the valiant rebels?' Each page contains one to four sentences of text, good for most second or third grade readers. The illustrations are mostly drawn from the films, covering the entire saga. The thirty-two page book includes a table of contents, a quiz and an index. This read is perfect for any young Star Wars fan who always wanted the full story on the clones.
