Star Wars the Han Solo Trilogy (Star Wars) Review

Star Wars the Han Solo Trilogy (Star Wars)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Every guy who's ever seen Star Wars has wanted to be Han Solo. Now, A.C. Crispin's Han Solo Trilogy fills in the backstory, and does it well. Rebel Dawn tries to bridge the gap to the original trilogy and tie up loose ends with Han and Bria's relationship. It also explains why Chewie worried Lando still held a grudge against Han. The book works, but perhaps not quite as smoothly as the first two books. Both Zala's suggestions she and Han get married and Han's pining for Bria seem a bit out of character. I did like the intrigue with the Hutts. Crispin makes them into believable mafioso types. Xizor was also well employed. At the least, the trilogy will give you a new respect for everybody's favorite smuggler and how far he's traveled to become respectable.

Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Dark Tide (Star Wars: The New Jedi Order, 2 & 3) Review

Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Dark Tide (Star Wars: The New Jedi Order, 2 and 3)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If your anything like me you would prefer Hardcover books over their paperback twins, even if paperbacks are cheaper. In this two-story installment to the Star Wars: The New Jedi Order series we follow the amazing literary creation by Michael A. Stackpole.
Dark Tide Onslaught: After the horrifying events of Vector Prime the story of the Jedi we have come to love continues as they fight for their lives and freedom from the invasion fleet of the Yuuzhan Vong. Stackpole paints a perfect picture of the Republics vial new enemy as they continue their deadly march towards the galactic core. The detail written within gives the reader the feeling as if they are the characters themselves as they struggle against a much more violent enemy then we saw in previous installments. The storyline continues its dark turn but is wonderfully balanced by the love that Luke and Mara hold within their hearts.
Dark Tide Ruin: Expanding on the storyline from Onslaught the reader follows the continuing tale of the fight against the Yuuzhan Vong. After the Jedi hand the Vong a series of set backs the Vong decided to take on a more aggressive and dark strategy to combat the forces of the Republic. The graphic introduction of the "Embrace of Pain" will leave the reader slack-jawed as the Vong show just how terrible they really are.
Both books are some of the best writing to find in the New Jedi Order series as Stackpole expands on the wonderful world created by R.A. Salvatore. You would do well to read this book(s).
ALL FEEDBACK IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED. THANKS AND GOOD READING.

Star Wars Dark Nest (Dark Swarm Trilogy 3 in 1, 1, 2,&3) Review

Star Wars Dark Nest (Dark Swarm Trilogy 3 in 1, 1, 2,and3)
Average Reviews:

I like the story in these books, the worlds, races and situations are very original. However, with all that originality sometimes it lacks creativity in the plot of the story. Predictable situations where everything that could possibly go wrong does and then suddenly everything gets well in the end. I also did not like verbatim narrative from The Phantom Menace. It is an entertaining read, well written and interesting enough. Refreshing in some parts.

Edge of Victory (Star Wars: The New Jedi Order) Review

Edge of Victory (Star Wars: The New Jedi Order)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's great to see that after 8 books the New Jedi Order series not only hasn't run out of steam, but is also getting good at building plots twists and characters that give the series depth. Unlike in Keyes' Conquest: Edge of Victory I, almost all of the main characters get equal "screen time" in Edge of Victory II: Rebirth. Luke goes into Exile, Han and Leia become privateers against the Peace Brigade, Jania participates in a strike against the Vong, and Anakin has his own adventure - and romance! Even better, Keyes continues his admirable efforts to give personality to the Yuuzhan Vong themselves. Nen Yim becomes even more crucial as we see her test the limits of Vong "heresy." Nom Anor makes a brief appearance in the book but he takes some pretty shocking actions. I'm still not crazy about Jacen Solo's character development, and at times he seems a bit too pacifist, but I think Keyes does the best he can with him in playing out the relationship between Han and Jacen. Overall, Keyes writes well and manages to make every scene exciting, from the Millennium Falcon's space battles to the birth of one special young Jedi at the end.

I have been searching for a copy of this book (in Hardcover) for some time and I have usually come up short. I was pleasently surprised when the book arrived in excellent condition with a protective sheet on the dust cover no less. If I could give a 6th star I would.

Force Heretic Trilogy: Remnant, Refugee, & Reunion (Star Wars: New Jedi Order) Review

Force Heretic Trilogy: Remnant, Refugee, and Reunion (Star Wars: New Jedi Order)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was surprised this book got so many bad reviews. I for one like the direction Dix and Williams are taking the New Jedi Order series. Their entry is a trilogy about the search for Zonama Sekot, the living planet. This first book follows the team as they enter Imperial space and fight off the Vong. Also, Han, Leia, and Jania go scouting the New Republic for systems that lost contact with the main government. Both are slower plot lines and allow the story to really develop. However, my favorite part of the book is all the attention paid to Nom Anor. His story of meeting the Shamed Ones and the Jedi heresy is the third major plot line of the book and really reveals more about his character. Of course, we see Nom Anor scheming to get back into power, but also some glimmers of other feelings. Overall, I'm glad the series is getting away from the major battles of the Vong war and allowing the characters to take these side quests.

The New Essential Guide to Droids (Star Wars) Review

The New Essential Guide to Droids (Star Wars)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Finally a New Essential Guide that can truly be called "Essential!" This may be the best essential guide (only the New Essential Chronology competes with it) written. Dan Wallace (with the aid of Able Pena and Pablo Hidalgo) has gone over every nook and cranny of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, and if there's a droid to be found, a detail to uncover, a story-element to expose, he's done it!
After the disappointing New Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels (which followed the trend of ignoring a lot of early Expanded Universe sources), I thought I was through with the NEG's. The New Essential Chronology changed that and this book has now upped the ante on ALL future Star Wars reference books!
Everything is here. Entire pages are devoted to characters from rare and even out-of-print continuity sources, from old newspaper strips by Russ Manning, to the Droids animated show and spin-off Star Comics series, to Alan Moore's rare stint on Marvel UK's Empire Strikes Weekly (reprinted in Devilworlds) to the requisite but often overlooked pages of Marvel Star Wars (reprinted recently as A Long Time Ago volumes 1-7), L. Neill Smith's brilliant Lando Calrissian trilogy, RPG sources, novels, young readers books, Dark Horse comics; It's all here and much, much more! Not a stone is left unturned from 1977 to 2006, nearly 30 years of continuity has gone into this book that actually succeeds in demonstrating that the much maligned "appliances" of Star Wars are really fascinating creations in their own right, and every bit as intriguing as their human masters.
Wallace handles the text expertly, weaving bits of continuity to form a much stronger and cohesive whole. This is not a guide for techies either, or even just for those who've read every original source out there, but rather it's a book for the average Star Wars reader written with a narrative structure. Far from simply providing the origin and purpose of the droid in question, each entry features fascinating short biographical tales of some of the famous examples that caused either salvation or destruction to the galaxy! Also, there's a history of droids section that details the dawn of their inception to their persecution and abolition at the hands of the Yuuzahn Vong. Also, as an added bonus, the illustrations here are stunningly realized.
This is definitely a guide you don't want to miss and represents the high watermark Star Wars authors can achieve when they combine love of the universe with intelligent, diligent research and a deft hand at fixing the plotholes and connecting the dots. For from these often disparate pieces, some of the great tales emerge. This book is proof of that.

The New Essential Guide to Characters (Star Wars) Review

The New Essential Guide to Characters (Star Wars)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Truly essential! Doubtless any Star Wars fan will find this book as fun, informative and entertaining as I did. I have the earlier edition as well, and while it was good in it's time, it became hideousely out of date quickly, and a new edition was definitely needed. I'd definitely say that this fantastic book is the best of the Essential Guides period; the author's clear, straightford, and unbiased tone are what really gives the book it's charm. Many of the minor inconsistensies between the novels are easily explained away here as well. And of course the illustrations. WOW!!! They certainly picked the right guy for this job; everyone is perfect, just how I imagined them. Among my favorites were Mara (deadly yet beautiful), Jacen (Wow, who ever guessed he'd be that cute), and Tsavong Lah (delightfully hideous). My only minor gripe is that a few characters, such as Callista for example, who hasn't even been MENTIONED in eight or nine years, kept a spot in the actual book, whereas a key character in the New Jedi Order such as Tenel Ka, or Jagged Fel were reduced to the "other persons of note" section in the back. Being that I despise Callista (always have always will) and adore Tenel Ka this irritated me enough that I took off a star for it. Desipite this however, I definitely recommend this book for any Star Wars fan, young or old. It would probably help if you have a fairly well read backround in the Expanded Universe, but this one promises to be entertaining even to amateur fans. Oh, also worthy of note, major AOTC spoilers in this one.

The New Essential Guide to Alien Species (Star Wars) Review

The New Essential Guide to Alien Species (Star Wars)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Now how are you going to understand the joke unless you know these species. And how are you going to know these species without the guide book.
This guide book is a description of the alien species found in the Star Wars. Generally each species gets two pages. On the left hand side wil be a drawing illustrating a representative of the species. On the tight is a description of the species, their home habitat, and other pertinent information about them. Overall, about a hundred species are so described, with another few dozen more given a third of a page or so of description.
This is the second edition of the book: revised, expanded and with color images of the alien species as requested by the readers of the earlier edition.
Of particular interest is the entry on 'Humans.' It remarks that we are really quite wide spread across the galazy. I guess that mean we've still got a chance.

The New Essential Chronology to Star Wars Review

The New Essential Chronology to Star Wars
Average Reviews:

This book is problably the most complete guide ever made. Has entire sections of time not discussed in movies (The Golden Age of the Sith, The New Jedi Order, etc.). Also includes many little-known Clone Wars battles that are very interesting (The Dark Reaper Project, Battle of Kamino, Defense of Naboo, The Battles of Lianna and Tehr, Fortress of Axion, Muunilnist, Brentaal,Null, Haruun Kal, the list goes on). Goes from up to 100,000 years before battle of Yavin to 36 years after. Also, the art is wonderfully done by Tommy Lee Edwards and the portraits look like pictures by Mark Chiarello. Just an excellent book that I'll problably read about 50 times or so. Definitely, a MUST buy (and well worth the cover price too.)

The New Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology, Revised Edition (Star Wars) Review

The New Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology, Revised Edition (Star Wars)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was extremely pleased with what I got when I purchased this guide. It gives a detailed description of the anatomy, history, and use of every item in Star Wars. This guide is broken into sections. These are ranged weapons, melee weapons, starship and planetary weapons, superweapons, defenses and armor, security, and other equitment. The ranged weapons section covers everything from the simple dart shooter to the lethal disruptor rifle. Melee is similar, and it gives many descriptions of Yuuzhan Vong melee weapons(ugh). Starship and planetary weapons section covers many things, and the superweapons section is a very interesting section. I value this guide over the Vehicles and Vessels guide. Its setup is more structured and organized. In the beginning of this guide you can find a Major Manufacterers guide. Ian Fullwood has done an excellent job illistrating this guide. You can see everything. I strongly reccomend this guide to anyone who likes Star Wars, and it really helped me get into Star Wars. A must-have.
