The Complete Locations of Star Wars: Inside the Worlds of the Entire Star Wars Saga Review

The Complete Locations of Star Wars: Inside the Worlds of the Entire Star Wars Saga

This is by far my favorite series of the DK Star Wars books. The locations and maps are excellent and one can spend hours just poring over the detail in one painting. I've been a Star Wars fan since the age of six in the spring of 1977 and I've always loved the technical aspects os the Star Wars fantasy. This book delivers in spades.
However, this goes for someone who hasn't already purchased, Episode 1 Complete Locations, Episode 2 complete Locations, and Classic Trilogy Complete Locations. As for me, I've already spent $20 per book for the first three and now DK decides to charge $40 (msrp) so I can buy all of it again? Yes, I want the new Revenge locations, as I've mentioned this is a fantastic series, but asking me to spend an additional $20 for material I've already spent $60 on is just poor business.
So, I highly recommend this book for anyone buying these for the first time - 5 stars. For anyone who has already purchased this series in years past - do as I will do. I will buy this book and then return the prior ones to the brick & mortar bookstore (it's ok, I used to manage one of them superstores, they just put it on the shelf and sell it again or return it to DK for credit) - 3 stars to DK for that marketing ploy.
In the end - 4 stars overall.

Star Wars - The Power of Myth Review

Star Wars - The Power of Myth
Average Reviews:

This book is besides a nice Star wars picture gallery alsoasplendid popular analysis of the Star Wars myths and legends. Theepisodes and various elements of the movies are compared with episodes in world history, the bible and Greek mythology ect. Luke Skywalker is paralleled with Wilhelm Tell, King Arthur and so on. Lukes companions and enemies and dominating themes as his relationship towards his father Darth Vader, treason, self-sacrifice and heroic deeds are compared with well-known existing myths and legends. World historical events is also clearly felt in the spacefighting (Second World War - Battle of Britain) and the pod racing in Episode One (Ancient Rome - Ben Hur in Circus Maximus). The Jedi-philosophy has many element from the Zenbudhism and the Imperial Storm Troopers are in many ways like medieval armoured knights. The book is nicely illustrated with lots of pictures from the movies. It will appeal strongly to children from 12 years and every Star wars-fan up 99 years. Star wars. The power of Myth will be a great help in guiding you through the rather complicated personal relationships and myths in the Star Wars universe of the four movies. Rasmus of 14 said to me: "Now I suddenly realize how everything works in the four movies and how they are linked together." I can clearly recommend this book to every Star wars-fan.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Visual Guide Review

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Visual Guide

A new Star Wars convert, my five year old son received this as a gift for his birthday two months ago. Since then, it has rarely left his side, as he reads it constantly. Although the vocabulary is often over his head, the graphics, layout and textual narration are excellent, and continue to command his attention and stimulate his imagination. Note: the book is strictly limited to the Star Wars Clone Wars saga (and graphics/illustrations from the movie/tv series, not any of the 6 SW movies). A very well-done product.

Since the first time we heard Luke Skywalker ask Obi-Wan Kenobi "You fought in the Clone Wars!?" in Episode IV: A New Hope, fans the world over have been wondering exactly what the Clone Wars were and what clones in combat would look like. On August 15th, 2008, with the theatrical release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, much will be explained. The Clone Wars take place between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Lucasfilm is now bringing the wars to life in an all-new CGI animated series. The theatrical release will launch this groundbreaking computer-generated animated series, which will then debut on Cartoon Network and TNT in the fall. New characters like female Padawan Ahsoka Tano join old favorites Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Count Dooku, General Grievous, and others as the Jedi cross lightsabers with the dark side yet again.© Lucasfilm Ltd. & (tm)

Star Wars Complete Cross-Sections: The Spacecraft and Vehicles of the Entire Star Wars Saga Review

Star Wars Complete Cross-Sections: The Spacecraft and Vehicles of the Entire Star Wars Saga
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have loved these cross-section books since even before these came out (seen a cool Star Trek OS cutout of the Enterprise). What you are getting with this volume is every entry in the previous four cross-section books as well as some extras. That's right. Even if you have all four original books you are still not getting everything.
This book adds cross-section entries for the TIE Bomber, TIE Advanced (something only touched on in the original trilogy cross-section), A-Wing Fighter, B-Wing Fighter, and the Imperial Shuttle. That's roughly half the vehicles you would find on a regular cross-section book added to this volume. On top of that you get a forward by both artists/writers talking about the fun they had making the books.
So what does that mean? Well if you have never gotten a Star Wars Incredible Cross-Sections book this is the one to get. You get ALL of the vehicles fromt he previous books plus another 1/2 book's worth of exclusive material. If you don't quite have all of the previous books then I say get this one at the price of a regular book (shouldn't be hard at all). If you don't have the original trilogy book that makes the purchase that much more sweet as that's where the new material is.
If you have the complete collection then you have to make a choice. Do you buy the book, thus get the extra ships and more shelf space? Do you complain to Lucas for the double dipping? Personally I am one of those people with the complete set and figured I didn't need the new book, however I really, really love the B-Wing and relished the idea of having a view of its innards so I got it. I'm pretty pleased with the purchase, and besides I was able to sell my old books to recoup some of what I spent.

The Ultimate Visual Guide to Star Wars Review

The Ultimate Visual Guide to Star Wars

I have been anticipating this book for a long time, AND I WASN'T DISAPPOINTED!! It in fact came out a lot sooner than I thought it would, so when I saw it at Barnes & Noble, I stopped dead, mouth hanging open. I immediately picked it up and couldn't put it down. It was $24.99, but that did not bug me (I would like to thank my cousins for that Barnes & Noble gift card from last christmas) I had to get it!
This book has it all: First, it is one of the first Star Wars books to cover all 6 films in detail: several very large and colorful pages for each film, with so much information that even the greatest, most knowledgeable Star Wars fan could not have fully covered. Second, This book goes way beyond the movies! This book includes many Epanded Universe pages, as well as a timeline! This book also has a Galactic Map! Third, This book even goes Behind the Scenes!! From pre-production of A New Hope to opening night of Revenge of the Sith, this book gives a brief, but great summary of how the films were made. This also has a few pages of merchandising, like figures, DVDs, etc. My favorite of this section was a brief history of Star Wars video games, complete w/ screenshots!
So overall, when they decided to call it the "Ultimate Visual Guide" they weren't kidding. This book is good for starting fans, in order to help them understand the entire Star Wars concept (and it is a hard concept to grasp) and a perfect addition to any veteran fan's collection. It even has my favorite Star Wars antagonist on the fron cover: Darth Vader! So to put i bluntly: simply perfect!
