The Fight for Justice by Luke Skywalker (Star Wars Journal) Review

The Fight for Justice by Luke Skywalker (Star Wars Journal)

I read this book one day when I was grounded and it was so sitting-on-the-edge-of-my-seat, rivetingly good that I didn't want to come out! It is written in journal form about what Luke was thinking and feeling during A New Hope, though this book spans a little before it too. This was especially interesting for me, since Luke has always been my favorite character. Part of why I loved it is that it was not simply yet another retelling of the original story, but breathed new life into it, and made it even more interesting, and considering that I have seen this movie so many times I practicly have it memerized, that is quite a feat. My one complaint of this book was that, though the character of Luke was explored deeply and in ways that few other books have, all the other characters were pretty much left out with the exception of Leia, since Luke was thinking quite a lot about her at this time. But then again, when I write in my journal I usually don't focus on other people either, and since this is supposed to be Luke's journal, that does make sense. In short, this was a wonderfull book that I would reccamend to any Star Wars fan, especially those who love Luke.

Culture, Identities and Technology in the Star Wars Films: Essays on the Two Trilogies (Critical Explorations in Science Fiction and Fantasy) Review

Culture, Identities and Technology in the Star Wars Films: Essays on the Two Trilogies (Critical Explorations in Science Fiction and Fantasy)

I would recommend "Culture, Identities and Technology in the Star Wars Films" to fans of the series as well as to teachers. The book covers a wide range of topics within the Star Wars universe, from capitalism to race to feminism - there's even a chapter on the fetishization of objects. Most essays discuss all six films and though this could cause the chapters to veer in too many directions, the writing in each remains focused and clear.
The highlight of the collection is the essay "Feminism and the Force: Empowerment and Disillusionment in a Galaxy Far, Far Away," which compares the surprising feminine strength of Princess Leia with Padme Amidala's "weepy stereotype of a woman coming undone." The essay goes on to defend Padme and to draw parallels between her and modern victims of domestic abuse, but the real heart of the article is the section on Leia. Truly a great book of essays.

El Retorno Del Jedi/the Return of the Jedi (Spanish Edition) Review

El Retorno Del Jedi/the Return of the Jedi (Spanish Edition)

Howard Coffin has established himself as the premier authority on Vermont and the Civil War. He has exhaustively researched Vermont's historical records including countless letters and diaries from the actual participants. He allows them to directly share their personal, heroic, sorrowful and inspiring stories and insights. It is difficult today to appreciate the pain and suffering which was brought home to every Vermont family during this Campaign. Mr. Coffin does honor to their memories and has provided a valuable research source for those interested in this period.

Star Wars Battlefront: Prima Official Game Guide Review

Star Wars Battlefront: Prima Official Game Guide
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
One of the great mysteries about the game Star Wars Battlefront is why the manual is so incomplete. It provides only a limited subset of the keyboard / mouse commands (PC version), and it further fails to describe in adequate detail the key abilities of the different character types (e.g., pilot, scout, infantry, etc.).
I purchased the "Official Game Guide" in hopes that it might fill in some of this information, and, surprisingly, it didn't. For example, it includes statements to the effect "Use your pilot to heal other characters," but nowhere in the guide, or the manual that came with the game, does it illustrate HOW to do that. (For what it's worth: by pressing "g," you have to choose heal / repair as a pilot's secondary weapon. Then, right-click the mouse to deploy a healing kit.)
The manual does however provide useful maps and a decent description of the strategies either side of a battle might use to their advantage.
In sum, the manual that comes with the game is incomplete, at best, and this "official guide" does not fill in all of the gaps. It is surprising to me that there isn't a good summary of the keyboard / mouse commands, nor gamepad commands for other platforms.

Star Wars: The New Myth Review

Star Wars: The New Myth
Average Reviews:

Working from the idea that Star Wars is indeed a "new myth," authors Hanson and Kay offer readers a valid explanation of how George Lucas used the basic tenets of historical myth (allegory, ritual, hero, for instance) to craft stories that are universal to the human experience.
Yes, it reads like a college thesis (which a portion of it was), but that does not make the conclusions less valid. What does detract from the reading is the dozens of typographical errors that abound in the book! Some serious proofreading was definitely called for here.
Overall, I found it to be an interesting addition to the vast universe of Star Wars literature, fiction and nonfiction. I only wish someone had been paying attention to the spelling and punctuation errors.

One thing makes this comic truly awesome...wait for it....Mace Windu with HAIR!!!! Interesting backstory mingled with a Clone Wars TV show like adventure. Brief mention to his special force abilities the Shatterpoint but other than that it is similiar to the other clone wars digest stories.
