Something about the plots in this book just didn't really hold my attention. Han and Leia travel to Bakura and face the prospect of renewed Ssi-Ruuk aggression, while Luke and company search the Chiss library for information about Zonoma Sekot. In practice, both plot lines just seem like attempts to include the Ssi-Ruuk and Chiss in a story. Neither sub-plot is very compelling, and both have drama and intrigue that seem forced, at best. The political scheming is just over the top. Fortunately, the book is saved by the Nom Anor sub-plot. While this doesn't receive quite as much attention as it did in the first Force Heretic book, it's always fun to see Nom Anor in action. Overall, this is one of the weaker entries in the New Jedi Order series.
