(More customer reviews)As the title suggests, "Death Star Battles" is all about one of the most powerful weapons ever imagined. From an in-universe perspective, the book is a non-fiction look at the Galactic Empire's Death Star. It begins with the building of the weapon and a look at Palpatine's intentions. After the introduction, the title chronologically follows Obi-Wan Kenobi's mission to rescue Princess Leia. Events include the prison break, escape from the garbage compactor, Luke & Leia's jump and Obi-Wan's final lightsaber duel. After the escape, the Rebel Alliance ultimately succeeds by destroying the Death Star -or more specifically the first one. Afterwards, a more powerful replacement is constructed. The book retells of Luke's duel with Vader and the Battle of Endor. In essence, "Death Star Battles" describes the story of the most cherished characters as they interact with the Death Star. That's not to say that the book simply retells the Star Wars story since trivia is offered that will illuminate even the most learned fans. For example, who knew that the original Death Star sustained a population of 1.7 million? While the second Death Star took only minutes to recharge, who knew that the primary weapon in the first one took 24 hours? "Death Star Battles" features a table of contents and a glossary. The attractive illustrations are lifted from the entire saga of films. The text in this 48 page book is good for most third and fourth grade readers. The writing has a chatty, conversational tone. While it's far from great art, the intended audience should get sucked into this read as if pulled in by a tractor beam.
