Very entertaining backstory for the band in the Star Wars cantina. The story is augmented by music from John Williams and original music for the band! I read it on the book "Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina" and while good, this was much more informative!
Buy it and enjoy!

I DON'T recommend it. If you want a copy of the script, I recommend the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace Illustrated Screenplay, which has storyboards of all the action and is the original shooting script, with scenes not appearing in the finished version. Only buy this if you want a version that fits the movie exactly.

"Star Wars" Chronicles Review

(More customer reviews)I've had this book for years and love flipping through it and looking at the production photos. It seems to have a closeup photo of every single thing from the original trilogy (sorry, no prequels). I remember for years (before the internet) it had the only good pictures of a Mon Calmari cruiser. The text identifies everything and provides useful descriptions, but don't expect anything too detailed or insightful. Overall, definitely a worthwhile investment for any fan of the original trilogy.

If you are like me, having lived and breathed Star Wars at one time or another during your life, you really owe it to yourself to listen to the Star Wars Radio Drama casettes, available from Amazon. Here is the casette versions, although I found a boxed set of CDs from Amazon that really kicked, but you have to search the Amazon database forever to find it. These audio versions are terrific, offering tons of material not in the movies, background on all characters, great acting by Anthony Danielt and Mark Hamil, great audio and sound effects, and much more. Recommended to all Gen X'ers.

(More customer reviews)This is *the* book for anyone who's ever had an interest in the vintage Kenner Star Wars action figure line (from 1977-1985). Nostalgiac fans who may or may not collect will see all the items they loved as kids, while experienced collectors will get comprehensive coverage on many different aspects of the hobby.
Based on 10 years of research, the author has compiled detailed information not to be found elsewhere, with a special focus on US package variations, store displays & promotional items, and package and display-related prototype items. If you think you've seen it all, you simply haven't until you've seen this book. The author has used large, high quality photos of all the items, many of which have never been seen in any other format. In addition to coverage of the toys many knew and loved, the author provides images of rare and one-of-a-kind items from his own and other collections. You didn't know how many different versions of the rare and infamous unproduced rocket-firing Boba Fett figures there were until this book came out!
There have been other books covering parts of the same topic, but none with the quality and depth as this book. The $34.95 cover price is far less than one would expect to pay for a lengthy hard-cover book like this, especially considering the overall high quality. Unlike general Star Wars guides that used lots of small images, the author has used large, high quality, professionally produced images. The paper stock and hard cover are also heavier than any other book I've seen in this area. In my opinion, not only is this book a bargain at this price, many of the items seen in this book can't be seen *anywhere* since they are in various private collections. It's a super treat to be able to see them all here together in one place.

If you want to know how the sublight drive on the Millenium Falcon works, or the parts of a light saber down to the power cell, this is the book to get. Please help to get this book back in print, it is really worth it!

It includes a detailed, diary account of the day-to-day making of "Jedi." It includes actual telex messages (before the email/Internet era) between the filmmakers, set schedules, actual call sheets, and much, much more! This will make any Star Wars fan drool, but it's also for students of the filmmaking process. The sheer detail of the information inside will satisfy even the most demanding Star Wars fan.

However, Dark Horse's brilliant Omnibus compilations is the god-send for us die hard fans who can't find every obscure copy. And being a deployed soldier, I appreciate being able to read as much as possible. I can't wait for Vol. 2. A great read and will definitely be in my collection of Star Wars Omnibus'.

Star Wars Omnibus: A Long Time Ago... Vol. 3 Review

(More customer reviews)STAR WARS OMNIBUS: A LONG TIME AGO... VOLUME 3 collects issues 50 - 67 and Annual #2 of Marvel Comics' classic Star Wars title. At this point in the series, The Empire Strikes Back had wrapped up and Lucasfilm appeared to be taking a greater hand in the direction of the stories and art. At the time, I felt that the series wasn't as fun as it had been, and my recent reading of this volume confirmed that, but there was still some enjoyment to be had. Volume 3 starts off with the double-length "The Crimson Forever", one of my favorite stories of the series. That leads to Archie Goodwin's exit as regular writer and brings in David Michelinie and Walt Simonson as frequent co-writers, with Simonson also taking on art duties. While the covers are pure Simonson, the interiors don't resemble his standard style, and that's because the pages are inked by Tom Palmer. I suspect that Palmer was chosen in order to give the major characters more of a movie likeness, but his work unfortunately causes Simonson's normally dynamic pencils to lose something.
Other story stand-outs include an Imperial conspiracy to kill Darth Vader, the return of Lobot (yay!), and the first appearances of Plif the Hoojib and Shira Brie. An unfortunate addition to the series is issues 53 - 54, which actually recycles story and art from an unused John Carter of Mars story into a Princess Leia adventure. It has to be seen (but not enjoyed) to be believed.

It's well put together and even had some things we didn't even know about. It gives you a great idea of what to look for if you are a collector and also what value your current items are worth.

Star Wars Character Encyclopedia Review

(More customer reviews)This delightful little book features just about all of the recognizable characters from all six "Star Wars" movies, including droids, creatures, and certain groups (like the Gamorrean Guards, Stormtroopers and X-Wing Pilots, for example). Even characters who I recognized but didn't even know the name of are featured.
Of course a few appear more than once, where their identity changed (Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, etc.). About the only omission are the individual Podracers, who (aside from the dastardly Sebulba) are all featured on one page. And some entries are on pages with a black, rather than white, background (and not necessarily signifying evil vs. good), which makes them a bit harder to read.
No matter; this is an indispensable reference to "Star Wars" fans, young and old. But it only applies to the six movies of the saga; characters from "Clone Wars" are featured in their own book, and characters from the "extended Universe" are not here, either. But if you want to know more about General Grievous, Sy Snootles or Zam Wesell, they're all in here!

The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Review

It's actually 362 pages, slightly thicker than the previous book, The Making of Star Wars: The Definitive Story Behind the Original Film, which is already a massive book. It seems that no paperback edition is available yet at the launch.
Once again, I'm marveled by the amount of information packed into the book by author J.W. Rinzler. I can't even begin to imagine the amount of research and effort is needed to put everything together, after the movie was screened 30 years ago.
The book details the arduous journey in the making of the film from the first story conference up to screening, and to the film awards won after that. The writing is excellent, filled with all sorts of stories and quotes. You get to read about the technical aspect of creating the movie, the little tricks used to create something believable on screen - see how they use fiber optics for lighting spaceships, painting the backgrounds, fixing up Yoda, and much more including production diaries of how they shoot.
The pages are also loaded with concept art, sketches, storyboards, memos, film stills and photos. All well reproduced, very detailed. There are lots of fun stuff happening behind the scenes captured on camera.
While the book is pricey, yes, it's well worth the money. With so much material, it will take more than one sitting to go through them.
Definitely a "must have" for Star Wars fans.

Note that in the previous book, they took out some content from the paperback edition. Not sure if it's going to happen here again.
