Star Wars Tales, Vol. 6 Review

Star Wars Tales, Vol. 6

Once again, Star Wars Tales franchise delivers. Being a star wars fan since the original movie opened (I was 7) has caused me to want to search out all kinds of books, comics, and magazines. Dark Horse has done a great job finding good writers and even greater illustrators to make these unique stories come alive. These stories will stretch the imagination and give new twists and views on characters in the Star Wars universe. I have enjoyed these stories emensely.

Star Wars: Tag & Bink Were Here (Part 1) Review

Star Wars: Tag and Bink Were Here (Part 1)
Average Reviews:

Well, I thought it was funny at least. While it may go for the easy gag, the bad pun, or the totally absurd... it still made me laugh.
The easiest description would be "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead" meets Star Wars. It's the adventure of two dimwitted (and previously unnamed) background characters from the Star Wars saga, and their adventures that accidentally steer the course of the trilogy.
The original two-issue mini series was an absolute classic. The follow-up from about a year ago was a bit forced, and not quite as funny. But still funny. Not sure about the other contents of this trade, but I think there's a story or two that I haven't read.
Writer Kevin Rubio was responsible for "TROOPS" the parody video that mashed up stormtroopers with "COPS." If you like that kind of humor, you'll enjoy this.
Side note: I saw this trade in a comics shop, and it had a different cover than pictured. Not sure if there are variants, or if the Amazon art is not current, but what I saw was nicer than what's pictured.

Officers Tag Greenley and Bink Otauna were minding their own business aboard a familiar, princess-harboring freighter when they suddenly found themselves under siege. Now under attack by the Empire, they will choose life over a noble death and "borrow" the armor off a pair of deceased stormtroopers. Their new disguises might get them off the freighter alive, but they'll also lead Tag and Bink on an adventure neither could have predicted! Chock-full of appearances by everyone's favorite Star Wars characters, Tag & Bink cleverly weaves the pair's misadventures into the movies themselves. No setting is safe as they traverse the galaxy from the Death Star to the Sarlacc pit to Cloud City to Endor!

MAD About Star Wars Review

MAD About Star Wars

If you are a Star Wars nut, buy this book. If you are a MAD nut, buy this book! A collection of everything do to with Star Wars that was ever published in MAD magazine. What more is there to say? The notes in the margins are almost the best bit, with lots of Star Wars trivia and such that I never knew about, with some great links to the Web. The only very, very slight grumble I have is that the comics and cartoons are printed a bit smaller than the originals, which make it more difficult to read for oldies like me! This is a must have book though, whatever kind of nut you are.

Star Wars vs. Star Trek: Could the Empire kick the Federation's ass? And other galaxy-shaking enigmas Review

Star Wars vs. Star Trek: Could the Empire kick the Federation's ass And other galaxy-shaking enigmas

This book kind of misses the point of both Star Wars and Star Trek. The "who'd win" matches pitting Star Wars and Star Trek characters against each other come across as silly and vapid. Mixing the two genres doesn't really work. Star Wars is about, well, wars, while Star Trek is about, well, exploration. While I love both franchises, pitting them against each other seems odd. Who really cares if the Sith would defeat the Temporal Cold War aliens from Enterprise? Even within these scenarios, the author spends only a few lines on each, providing for superficial treatment. Overall, you're better off spending your money on an actual Star Trek or Star Wars novel.

Star Wars Mad Libs Review

Star Wars Mad Libs

This was a stocking stuffer gift for our 7 yr old that turned out to more than worth it's cost. We played this round robin style with a group of 11 after dinner with each person (young as 5 and old as 73) supplying a word and the result was hysterical. Through the game my kids have learned parts of speech (what an adverb, adjective, noun) all while having fun ..even the grownups got a refresher. This brought young and old together after dinner, has a Star Wars theme and teaches you a little bit as well ...all for a few dollars.
