"Anakin's Race For Freedom" closely follows events from "the Phantom Menace." The story begins with an introduction of Anakin Skywalker and his slave life. The reader soon meets his mother and C-3PO. Before long, an outlander and his companions come to buy hyperdrive parts from Watto, Anakin's owner. While Watto refuses the visitors, Anakin helps by offering the travelers shelter in his home. During the stay, an arrangement is made to have Anakin podrace in the hopes of winning money to help Qui-Gon Jinn and his companions buy the parts they need and continue their mission. Not only does Anakin win the race, but he also finds out that a bet was made between Qui-Gon and Watto. The outcome of the bet made the Boonta Eve Race Anakin's Race for Freedom. Looking forward to his future in the stars, Anakin joins a handmaiden by the name of Padmé. The original illustrations are attractive and the text is on a third grade reading level. Filled with action, suspense and significant plot development, "Anakin's Race For Freedom" is sure to engage padawan readers.
