"Captured" retells the "Dooku Captured" episode from season one of the CGI "Clone Wars" TV show. It begins when Obi-Wan Kenobi boards a separatist battle cruiser in the Outer Rim. While he rescues Anakin Skywalker, the slippery Count Dooku escapes. The ensuing starship chase leads to a crash landing on a strange planet. While Dooku again evades the Jedi, he is soon captured by Hondo and his pirate brethren. As Weequays, readers will instantly recognize the species from "Return of the Jedi." Ultimately, this is part of the fun associated with "Clone Wars." The show often takes a character, creature or planet that in the films was only mentioned or shown in passing. "Clone Wars" will then expand such a thing into a sub-plot with an interesting background story. In this print retelling, the gundark attack is omitted for reasons that are probably related to length. In any case, Hondo's plan is to sell the Count to the Republic. Master Kenobi and Skywalker are dispatched to Florrum to make the arrangements, but they too are soon captured by the pirates. In an odd dynamic, Dooku, Skywalker and Kenobi work together to escape their detention. The story ends with an illuminating and heartwarming lesson in how the Jedi handled conflict. The illustrations are all from the episode and Rob Valois' adaption is good for most third and fourth grade readers. The actual episode is peppered with funny banter between Anakin and Obi-Wan; fortunately the author kept this dialogue intact. After the title page, a glossary explains important ideas and characters to those who are new to the Star Wars universe. While this isn't great literature, "Captured" is sure to be engaging for young readers.
